The Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust offers grants to assist Yorkshire churches of all denominations with their maintenance, repair and restoration.

There is no minimum or maximum amount that can be applied for, but the average grant size is around £2,500. Applicant's churches must be in use as public places of worship and accessible to the public, and must intend to remain a place of worship in the foreseeable future. Preference is generally given to projects that show support from other funders and evidence of their own fundraising.

Eligible expenditure include the following:

• Repairs to the church fabric (such as walls, roofs, floors, tower, bell frames, windows, stonework)
• Conservation of fixtures and fittings (such as monuments, furniture, stained glass).

Exclusions to funding include:

• New work (such as extensions, heating and lighting installations)
• Repairs forming part of an overall re-ordering project
• Work that has already been started or completed, unless repairs are urgent and the application has been submitted before the work commences
• Repairs to church halls, parsonage houses and/or other associated buildings.

The next deadline for applicants is 16 December 2011. Additional deadlines are on 27 April 2012 and 7 September 2012.
