Summer of Sanctuary Small Grants are available from Sheffield City Council. They are for voluntary, community and self-help groups, run by and for local people, to take part in Sheffield Summer of Sanctuary and Refugee Week 2011.

The grant could help your group to celebrate Sheffield Summer of Sanctuary and Refugee Week 2011 or could help you to run activities, hold an event or produce resources to promote positive images of refugees.

Sheffield Summer of Sanctuary will be held from 20 June to 31 August 2011, and will include national Refugee Week from 20 to 26 June. Groups can apply for funding for projects and events to take place in any of the months in which Summer of Sanctuary is happening.

Projects or events should aim to:

• Provide a space of encounters between different communities
• Use creative ways to bring refugee experiences closer to wider audiences
• Encourage a better understanding between communities
• Celebrate the contribution of refugees to the UK
• Encourage people to change their perception of refugees.
