11 May 2011
Charities and not-for-profit groups who are working to alleviate fuel poverty can apply to the ScottishPower Energy People Trust. Funding ranging from small amounts up to £100,000 is available in four areas; projects should meet one of these areas or a combination of them: Crisis funding - the types of projects which could be funded include helping women and children who need emergency accommodation or vulnerable young people setting up their first home
Income maximisation - the types of projects which could be funded includes carrying out benefits checks to help households that are not claiming all their benefits entitlement, or to help people who are not eligible for government grants because they do not receive the qualifying benefit
Energy efficiency measures and advice - the types of activities which could be funded include improving home energy efficiency through draught proofing, insulating and offering energy efficiency advice
Research - for example, research projects that aim to understand the link between fuel poverty and health.
Priority is given to projects helping families with young children and young people.
All projects, except those funded under research, should include energy efficiency advice and/or home energy efficiency measures and all projects must clearly be working with fuel poverty as the primary purpose (not just as an add on).
