Zurich Insurance has produced a Community Toolkit "a free online resource for people who want to get involved in organising smaller, more straightforward community activities" (Community Toolkit website).
The toolkit looks really easy to use and goes through a series of online questions. It gives guidance on health and safety, insurance, planning and legal issues and creates a personalised toolkit pack for you. It is suitable for smaller groups, not for registered charities or organisations already running large events.

Some of the types of activities it can help you get started with planning are:
• Befriending the elderly
• Fundraising activities
• Shopping and prescription collections
• Garden and grounds maintenance schemes
• Arts and creative community projects
• Heritage and environmental projects
• Community groups
• Litter picking.
