The Community Cash Awards, from the Prince's Trust, helps individuals set up projects that will benefit their community. Grants of up to £3,000 are available, with £1,500 given on average, to support setting up a project.

To apply, individuals must be aged 14-16, and achieving or at risk of achieving less than 5 GCSEs grades A*- C, or aged 16-25 and not in education, training or work (or working less than 16 hours a week).

The funding available depends on the region you live in, for Yorkshire and the Humber the priority is for young people that are:

• Educational underachievers
• Offenders and ex-offenders
• Unemployed
• In or leaving care.

Projects must:

• Be run and managed by people between the ages of 14 - 25
• Clearly benefit the local community
• Benefit the people running the project
• Be a new or developing project.

Specific funding is also available in Yorkshire and the Humber for:

• Projects using football to help the community
• Young people (aged 14-17) who are part of a youth project doing the ‘Community Space Challenge'
• Young people who are involved in a Kickz football project
• Are an asylum seeker, refugee or from black and minority ethnic groups. Funding has been donated by the Islamic Development Bank and Department of Communities and Local Government
• Projects promoting and tackling issues around anti- gun, knife and gang violence.
Formal groups or organisations are not eligible to apply. The funding cannot be used for expeditions or overseas travel, fundraising activities for a charity or trips and outings, unless they have educational value.

Applications should be sent to your local regional office.

Development Grants are also available to help individuals get into education, training or employment.
